What
is Classical Homeopathy? Back
to top Is Homeopathy Safe? Back to top Homeopathic treatment is a process of selecting the correct remedy that will stimulate
the body’s own healing process. At the follow up appointment, the practitioner will evaluate the effectiveness of the remedy. Some
patients will continue taking the same remedy, when indicated. Other patients will need a new remedy. It is important to allow time
for homeopathic treatment. There are many remedies and some clients may need several remedies to fully heal. What is my role in
the process? Back to top
Classical Homeopathy starts with an in-depth review of the client's mental, emotional and physical symptoms. The
remedy is selected based on a comprehensive analysis and is unique to the totality of the client's symptoms.
This is the most effective method to signal the immune system to come back into balance.
Homeopathic remedies are completely safe and are under the regulation of the FDA. Even babies and pregnant women can use
Homeopathy without the danger of side effects. Homeopathic remedies can also be taken alongside other medication without producing
unwanted side effects.
Homeopathic remedies are taken from a wide variety of natural ingredients (such as plants and minerals) and
diluted until only minute traces remain so you need not worry about side effects.
Homeopathy is holistic. It treats all the
symptoms as one, which in practical terms means that it addresses the underlying cause of the symptoms. This often means that symptoms
tackled with homeopathy do not recur.
What's the Catch? Back
to top
Prescribing the right homeopathic remedy takes a little more time and patience than conventional medicine. The right remedy
needs to be taken for your symptoms. There is no such thing as a standard homeopathic remedy for any particular complaint. The remedy
you take has to be matched to your particular symptoms - where it occurs, what brings it on, what type of pain it is, what makes
it feel worse, your state of mind and what other symptoms you experience.
As an example, there is not a specific remedy for headaches
or anxiety. There are many remedies for headaches and many remedies for anxiety. The right remedy is found by a trained homeopath
who investigates what makes your symptoms unique to you and matches that unique situation to the appropriate remedy.
What can I expect
from my first appointment? Back to top
The homeopathic consultation involves a detailed client interview. During the interview, the homeopath collects physical,
mental and emotional symptoms indicative of the client’s underlying imbalance. This allows for the individualization necessary to
select the precise homeopathic remedy.
Choosing the correct remedy can be complicated since it is based on each individual's characteristics.
This is why the interview process is comprehensive and the practitioner will need to spend time analyzing the case, referencing
and verifying remedies and symptoms.
A client intake form will help start you thinking about your symptoms in a broader manner, beyond
your “chief complaint”. It will also help the practitioner learn a little more about you and help in preparation for your initial
appointment.
What can I expect from a remedy? Back
to top
Homeopathic remedies are substances which stimulate the body to restore health. As the physical, mental or emotional imbalance
heals, symptoms begin to fall away. The healing process is gentle, yet dramatically comprehensive. In addition to resolving specific
health complaints, many clients find improvements in overall health such as increased energy, reduced stress and anxiety levels and
improvements in memory and concentration.
What about follow up visits? Back to top
A follow up visit will be scheduled 4 to 6 weeks after receiving a remedy, depending on how you are feeling and what sort
of conditions are being addressed. A slowly developing complaint or one that you’ve experienced for many years, may not disappear
right away but many see progress within weeks. Follow up appointments give you and your homeopath the opportunity to view your
overall progress and make any adjustments to the remedy, if needed. Although the follow up appointments are critical to the
process of healing, once resolved, you need only return if your level of health declines for any reason.
Can I use Homeopathy if taking
other medications? Back to top
Yes, since homeopathic remedies do not work the same way as pharmaceutical drugs do, they will not interfere with
other medications. When you take your remedy in the correct dosages, it will often stimulate your body to decrease its dependency
on other medications as your energy improves. It is important to work closely with your physician to monitor these types of changes
before deciding to make changes to your prescription medicines.
How long can I expect it to take? Back to top
That depends on your condition, your state of health when it started and on the complexity of the circumstances surrounding
your problem. Most people start to feel better by the first follow up appointment, but it is important not to expect a problem that
has plagued you for years to disappear in a month.
Homeopathic remedies are not “miracle drugs” which cause symptoms to magically disappear. They are substances which stimulate
the body to restore health. Finding the right remedy for you requires that you become a partner in the process.
Your job is to be
as complete and forthcoming as you can with the information you provide. Feedback to the practitioner through follow up appointments
is vital to the process. Follow up appointments are scheduled at intervals that will allow time for the remedy to work and for the
practitioner to assess whether the patient is making the expected progress.
